CREATING A PHILANTHROPIC PLAN
FOR YOUR INTERESTS & VALUES
The foundation of our work together is a highly personalized Philanthropy Playbook, which serves as a guide for:
- determining your charitable assets
- recording your unique history & stories
- identifying your interests & values
- outlining goals for giving
- priorities for decision-making
- creating parameters for incoming requests
- short-term plans & legacy planning
- an action plan & timeline
- documenting historical & ongoing giving
- reviewing outcomes & impact
These topics represent a sample of the information included in the chapters of your Philanthropy Playbook, designed to help you think about who you are—or want to become—as a philanthropist. You choose the depth of information to share and the pace for completing your Philanthropy Playbook. The most robust Philanthropy Playbooks are continually updated to reflect your evolving thoughts and experiences.
INTRODUCTORY MEETING
This complimentary session is an opportunity for you to share your philanthropic goals and learn about the work of MVP Giving. Some people are prepared with a detailed vision of their plan, and many come to the table wanting to make a difference not knowing where to start or how to begin. We meet you where you are and will adapt our services to meet your specific needs. We will answer your questions with transparency, and we will ask you to do the same. We will review the components of the Philanthropy Playbook, describe our fee structure and the logistical details for working together. Following the meeting, and upon your request, we will prepare a proposal for services.
Introductory meetings are typically scheduled for one hour. We believe it is best to meet in person and will travel to your preferred location. If you are unsure about scheduling time with us, we encourage you to contact us for the opportunity to answer your initial questions.
MENU OF SERVICES
♦ Your Charitable Receptionist
We will respond to your phone messages, email and regular mail, relieving you of the responsibility of managing and answering numerous inquiries for financial support. We will review and vet opportunities based upon your giving plan, forwarding or declining requests as appropriate. Appeals from friends and family can be particularly awkward; we will accept the challenge for you by being delicate, kind and firm—finessing conversations in a gracious and positive manner.
♦ simple planning & Solutions
If you want expert advice and support but do not have significant time to dedicate to planning and review, this option is for you. After a brief, efficient meeting to determine your top two areas of interest, we will investigate opportunities for giving and report back to you with straightforward, low-risk options. This will allow you to make swift and effective funding decisions while maintaining focus on your game.
♦ Detailed planning & Solutions
When you have time to devote to reviewing and completing more sections in your Philanthropy Playbook, either together or independently, we can begin to develop and organize the direction toward your desired outcomes. The established options are listed below. We are also thoughtful in presenting additional solutions to meet your needs to advance your philanthropy.
Comprehensive Strategies
This plan presents different options for distributing your dollars:
• emergency funding
• administrative & operating support
• programming
• scholarships
We conduct in-depth non-profit research to find the best matches for your giving using your established guidelines, including board and staff diversity, cultural competency, participant engagement data, financial stability, etc. We evaluate possibilities for, and barriers to, success, identify potential risks and areas of concern. This ultimately leads to detailed recommendations for your consideration.
Bold & Transformative Philanthropy
When you have a burning desire to become part of the solution, we can create bold plans for transformation through brave conversations, well-researched and culturally informed data; engaging potential recipients in courageous next practice thinking, creating revolutionary strategies and leveraging your philanthropic dollars to influence how people contemplate and solve problems that others believe are too hard to change. This may result in a call to action and a request for proposals that demonstrate innovative approaches to creating a solution; the very best responses will not be confined to today’s reality but are aspirational to an equitable future.
This choice requires a significant annual allocation of charitable assets over a period of multiple years. An equal investment of time and energy is critical for success; this commitment is primarily held by MVP Giving with your thoughtful engagement.

Family Philanthropy
If you wish to engage multiple generations of your family, close friends and/or associates in charitable donations, we will use a similar process as described above and facilitate conversations for how they can use money you designate for their giving. If this group is also interested in community service, we can research opportunities based on their interests and provide recommendations for their consideration.
Planning a Legacy
You may have intuitively known from the day you were drafted the charitable legacy you want to leave; however, most people focus on this when they feel more settled in their career or following retirement. This option considers and plans for how you want to give throughout your lifetime; it may be basic annual giving, it may be bold and transformative philanthropy, it may focus on one issue or one community or a combination of issues and places. The best legacy plans leave room for how you evolve as a person, grow as a philanthropist and see the world in new ways.
Lifetime achievement awards
If you are motivated to be eligible, nominated for and receive a lifetime achievement award for your charitable giving, we will strategize an aspirational plan to fit those guidelines.

♦ Events
We have significant and broad experience —black-tie galas, 5k races, golf tournaments, high-profile speakers and intimate gatherings in private homes. If you want to explore hosting an event, we will provide perspective and advice to help you move forward in an organized, purposeful and productive manner. We know what it takes to conceive and produce remarkable, successful fundraising events; we also have experience with fundraisers that end up costing more money than they are worth, and we know how to navigate the difference. We will help you weigh the pros and cons; if you decide to move forward, we can help establish benchmarks and metrics for evaluating success. If requested, we will provide references for premium event coordinators and companies.
♦ Publicity
We protect your privacy at all times and ensure recognition is aligned with your comfort level. If you are interested in publicity around your giving, we will provide a guide for such and welcome the opportunity to collaborate with your publicist. If you do not have a media relations professional focused on your personal interests, we can provide recommendations for your consideration.

who we are

our founder:
Jennifer Pope Baker
Our Founder and CEO has more than 30 years of thoughtful, strategic, non-profit leadership; including serving as an advisor to professional athletes and their families in various capacities throughout her career. She is highly regarded as an innovative, accomplished, trailblazing executive with an entrepreneurial spirit. MVP Giving clients benefit from her extensive experience in developing transformational strategies and delivering exceptional results.
Working together
We listen to learn. Your life experiences, values, passions and opinions about the world create the foundation for our work together.
First, we learn from you what you care most about and how you want to change the world for the better. Then we go to work.
We focus on the details, research and processes so you do not have to. MVP is your philanthropic representative and investigator, allowing you to remain anonymous while we research, evaluate opportunities and propose options for your giving that align with your priorities and have the greatest impact.
We continue the work by implementing the options you approve, following through with all the details and providing updates on how your gifts are impacting the community.
SCOPE OF SERVICES
We are dedicated to providing advice, guidance and implementation of your philanthropic plans and welcome invitations to meet and connect with the other professionals on your team: agents, attorneys, financial planners, wealth advisors, etc. In our experience, this allows you to take advantage of the unique talents each person offers, which cannot fully be replicated by those without the same industry expertise. This type of collaboration leads to a thoughtful, holistic approach by your professionals resulting in unparalleled services for your benefit.
Charitable Assets
We recommend our clients work with a trusted financial advisor to determine how much money you have available for your annual giving and the best way to set aside these dollars. Your advisor may recommend establishing a donor-advised fund which is typically the most effective way to create a foundation without the significant legal and tax burdens of having your own 501c3 organization. We can provide information to help explain the different ways you can organize your charitable dollars, the pros/cons of each and help you plan a list of questions to discuss with your financial advisor so you can decide what works best for your personal situation.
Fees
MVP Giving fees are based on the complexity of your unique plan, the time needed to meet your goals and our rigorous commitment to delivering outstanding results. We know our clients like options when determining how to engage with us. Your proposal will include detailed, transparent and personalized information about the benefits and impact of selecting either our hourly rate, a project fee or a subscription for philanthropic expertise and support throughout a calendar year. We will never surprise you with hidden charges or transactions.
